Akeran Genesis
Redare Caesaris qua Caesaris sunt
The Akeran Game was born in 1994, quite a long time ago. Its conceptors,
Briac, Khorg and Artagel, also known as
bdalpha, Aldorin and BlkKnight had designed it to
connect to the IRC network, allowing players from all around the world to play
in the same game. They imagined the World and its deities, founded the ancient
City of Greystar, established the Great Market that would become the Guild of
Merchants, and discovered the 5 Realms, in which inhabitants of an equal number
of Races would live, thrive, fight and die under the guidance of their rulers.
They also designed the whole initial set of building and units.
The Next Generation
In 1999, our ways has quite split, and even if the hosting of the game had
been tranferred to one of the most active players of Akeran II, the initial
flame threatened to vanished. That year, a new team was due to arise, intending
to give a new breath to our beloved game.
Most of the Akeran III team used to be beta-testers of the first version of
the game during this long gone epoch, and we all took the oath to be faithful
to the original spirit.
The 3rd version sustained a whole technical redesign, which success allow us
today to keep on playing the game either via the Internet Relay Chat, like the
old days, or via the web, the latter being the only way for most of us to keep
on playing a little at work. One day, there could also be one or more heavy
client interface, but don't count on it soon, or apply for the job as voluntary
helper.
The team
The Akeran Team is composed of a varying amount of members
The core members are
- Marzal: The Omnipotent Artisan as we call him everytime.
For once, he's to one who's hosting the game and allow you, by the power of
ADSL, to play every day. He's also Master of Network Administration and
main/lone Game Coder, so he's responsible for of all the bugs, but also
features, you enjoy (/me grins). Please Marzal, don't be cross, I'm just
kidding ... Hey, what are you doing under my walls with that nasty-looking
Magician-grade spellcaster... Argh!! Is that what's left of my garrison ? Hmm,
prototype of the Wind of Death level-46 spell, isn't it ?
- Calcoran: He's also known as The WarMaster, having
gathered such a knowledge about fighting units management and combat tactics
that no one among us understand it as well. He's still working hard today on
the blueprints of future Siege Engine.
- LordClide: Beside writing this manual, I contributed a little to the
initial coding, and more recently to the uprising of the web interface (until
Marzal took on the HTML part also), but mainly I may say without boasting that
I'm the lone Student in Applied Magical Art of the team that manage to
complete the study of the Laws of Magic that rule the World of Akeran. That mean
essentially I'm to blame if you do not like your spells (I've heard you, the one
with the pointy ears in the last row).
The part-time, during those long years, contributors are
- Iznogoud: Our Best Merchant of the Year has always been
interested in another way of playing than raw military strength, allowing him
to dig further into the commercial whereabouts of the game. He often plays
Nomads, you now understand why.
- Wurf: Besides evaluating whether Elves are Better than Dwarves (done
yet, Wurf ?), he's a constant support of the team, submitting from times to
times great suggestions for the game.
- Sioran: He comes by and say hello again at inexpected frequency, but
was one of the reinitiaters of the game. Hey Sioran, come and sign the
guestbook, at least!
A word about Etherealism
Etherealism is a non lethal disease that some members of the team have
been/are/will be afflicted of. Its symptoms consist essentially in non
respected dealine engagements for release of specifications, comments or tests.
Delays sometimes reach a couple of months, when an at least successful
summoning brings the patient back.
